Baselworld 2010, Basel, Switzerland.
It’s that time of year again where Switzerland hosts the world largest and finest watch and jewellery fair.
This year, Andrew Biggs, who engraves the Magrette timepieces, will be at the show demonstrating the use of hand engraving equipment manufactured and supplied by the leading American company GRS, a subsidiary of Glendo Corporation.
As one of the special projects this year, Andrew has been commissioned to design a one of a kind engraving on a Magrette timepiece especially for the show. He will demonstrate the techniques of how he engraves the watches and the equipment he uses. This process will demonstrate the transferring of the design, the main cuts and background relieving finished by the fine shading cuts on the leaves and moko (tattoo) on the masks and faces.
What is even more exciting is that this will be in collaboration with internationally acclaimed Grand Master Alexandre Sidorov from Belgium, who will be setting precious stones into the bezel and case to enhance the engraving and bring sparkling highlights to the piece.
Once the artisans have finished their work the watch parts will come back to New Zealand for assembly. The final timepiece will then be shipped to GRS who will display the timepiece in the cabinet that is displaying some of the finest hand engraving in the world.
You are invited to come and see the demonstration at the GRS display located in Hall 3U, Stand D40. This is a unique and rare opportunity to see first hand the skills and equipment that goes into cutting the designs and seeing how precious stones are set. There will also be a two completed and assembled Magrette fully engraved timepieces on display for you to look at.
