Kaitiaki (Guardian or Protector)

The Magrette watch rotor signifies the name Kaitiaki which means guardian or protector. It features the Gods and the traditional bird like head of the Manaia.

Kaitiaki is mainly used in the sense of sustainable development a concept that was around for a very long time before it became fashionable. In ancient times that meant things like do not kill more than you can eat or only kill the older animal so the young can reproduce to keep the herd alive. Today it could be seen as someone with a conservation attitude or even an organization such as Greenpeace or National Parks Service.
